Horizon Bank Award of $10,000 Grant to LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity Shows Positive Results
Michigan City, Indiana – Horizon Bank is pleased to announce the grant awarded to LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity in support of their 2022 build project that has resulted in the completion of another new, affordable home in our community. The home was completed in November, in time for the family to enjoy Thanksgiving.
LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity addresses the need for affordable housing by building homes for low-income working people. Housing prices and rent have significantly risen in the area, with three bedroom homes renting for more than one-thousand dollars per month. The build, located on Home Street in LaPorte, is financed with Habitat’s 0% interest loan resulting in affordable repayments over 30 years.
Habitat’s mission is to provide affordable housing at low-cost. Houses are sold at the actual price of the build for no profit and are financed by Habitat. Steve Kring, Horizon Bank’s Regional President of Northwest Indiana said of the grant, “Horizon is proud to support LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity, and the incredible work they do in our community. It is comforting to know while housing costs continue to soar, Habitat is constantly working to provide an affordable option for families in the area.”
