Horizon Bank Supports The Pax Center in Response to COVID-19

LAPORTE, INDIANA (April 2, 2020) — Horizon Bank donated $2,500 to support those impacted by food insecurity in LaPorte County. As unemployment rates rise, food insecurity rates rise with it. Horizon Bank's donation to the Pax Center helps over 100 people in LaPorte County have access to food.

"Horizon understands the importance of helping others in times of need, and we knew it was crucial to support the Pax Center and help keep LaPorte County fed during these difficult times," said Horizon Bank's Regional President of Northwest Indiana Steve Kring.

In the final two weeks of March, the food pantry saw a significant increase in new patrons needing assistance for the first time. Community partners like Horizon Bank allow the Pax Center to keep LaPorte County well-fed and well-loved.

The Pax Center CEO and President Nate Loucks said, "This is a particularly anxious and challenging season for many of our neighbors. The impact of this global pandemic has local consequences. We are grateful for the continued partnership and generosity of Horizon Bank. They were ready to respond when needs arose."

The Pax Center continues to offer three food pantry times during the week; Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12-1:30 PM and Saturdays from 9-10:30 AM. Food pantry visitors receive a week's worth of non-perishable canned and boxed goods, and dairy, meat, and produce items. No appointment is needed to receive help.
