Urban League of Northwest Indiana Selects Horizon Bank for its Leadership Award

Michigan City, Indiana — Horizon Bank was awarded the Leadership Award at the recent Urban League of Northwest Indiana Diversity and Inclusion celebration. It was a virtual event, and nine awards were given out to organizations who were recognized for their work in their local communities.

Horizon Bank was selected for the Leadership Award, in honor of its support of the advancement of diversity and inclusion and in recent months how they supported the organization’s emergency food initiative in response to COVID-19.

Yolanda Davis, VP, Community Reinvestment Act Officer at Horizon and Vice Chair of the Urban League of NWI board, said, “One of our core values is to embrace individual, cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity. Our support of the Urban League is just one of the initiatives we’ve undertaken as part of this value. We’ve also worked to better serve our Hispanic customers with a Spanish-speaking branch and bilingual advisors in our call center — and we provide financial literacy workshops for diverse groups at schools, churches, and non-profit organizations.” In 2019, Davis notes, the Bank also made more than $55,000 in cultural donations to organizations like the Indiana Black Expo, the Martin Luther King Celebration, and the Northwest Indiana Pride Festival.

The award was presented by Vanessa Allen-McCloud, president and CEO of the Urban League of NWI, and Thomas Keon, chancellor of Purdue University Northwest and chairman of the Urban League of NWI board of directors.

“We are honored to have received this Leadership Award,” Davis said. “Horizon Bank advisors are constantly working with the community to make a better place for us all to live and thrive, and we’re proud of the good work our team members are doing on a daily basis.”
