Horizon Bank and Calumet College Announce Horizon Scholars Program

Horizon Bank and Calumet College of St. Joseph (“CCSJ”) are pleased to announce the new Horizon Scholars Program.

The program offers a paid internship to CCSJ juniors who have been identified by the CCSJ faculty in the business and technology departments. In addition to a Horizon Bank funded scholarship, these students are offered summer employment to augment their educational experience.

The Horizon Scholars program allows students to have a progressive internship experience and scholarship support, while providing the bank an opportunity to grow their business and their mid-level management team.

“I have been very impressed with the thoroughness at which the Scholars Program has been designed, and it gives me great confidence that the students will have a valuable experience and the bank will have an opportunity to recruit from a diverse pool of talented CCSJ students.  This is a model program where businesses and colleges work together to meet shared needs and community goals,” said Dr. Amy McCormack, President of Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Horizon Bank and CCSJ are pillars in their communities for supporting diversity and inclusion. Not only does Horizon have an active Diversity Business Council, they also recently opened their first bilingual branch in Whiting, Indiana and plan to open a second bilingual office in the near future.  Calumet College has just been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the most diverse college in the state of Indiana.  It is the only not-for-profit Hispanic Serving Institution in the state as well.  By developing this partnership, CCSJ can assist in identifying talented students who may be potential future employees at Horizon.

“We are excited to announce this scholarship program, and we look forward to supporting the professional aspirations of the students of CCSJ. We intend to provide them a valuable internship experience and a support their college costs through our scholarship program,” said Craig Dwight, Chairman CEO.

The two students selected for the first internships are Desiree Vega of Whiting, IN and Jose Pacheco of Bloomington, IL.  Ms. Vega will intern in the Trust Department in Michigan City and Mr. Pacheco will intern in the Credit Analyst Department in Merrillville.
