Caring for our Communities During Covid-19

In March, Horizon Bank pledged financial support to aid in the relief of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Horizon advisors across our footprint – from Central Michigan to South Central Indiana – have been working together to fund the efforts of more than 50 non-profits, committing more than $270,000 in support.

“I am so proud of our Horizon advisors’ roots in the communities, and their ability to join forces with so many diverse organizations to further their mission during this unprecedented time,” said Craig Dwight, Chairman and CEO.

Funds were allocated to local organizations with critical resources that are efficiently delivering aid to those most affected by the coronavirus outbreak. In addition to the major area United Way Foundations, here are some of the organizations they’ve supported:

  • Porter County Community Foundation
  • PAX Center
  • Urban League
  • Salvation Army Lake County
  • Life Centers
  • Midland Co. Food Pantry
  • Sacred Heart Food Pantry
  • Franciscan Preparedness And Response Fund
  • Brightpoint
  • Midland Area Community Foundation
  • Midland Family Center
  • LaPorte County Unity Foundation
  • Girls Inc of Johnson County
  • Community Action House
  • Gleaners Community Food Bank
  • Interfaith Community PADS
  • Council on Aging of Elkhart County
  • Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County

These organizations are working harder than ever to accommodate the relief needs in their communities. Hear what they have to say:

“We greatly appreciate this generous donation from Horizon Bank,” said Teresa Kmetz, President and CEO Capital Area United Way. “This gift will be providing direct financial assistance to households in crisis.

"In taxing times, true servant leadership shines. Franciscan Health is very proud and grateful to partner with strong servant leaders such as Horizon Bank to provide compassionate care for all, including the most vulnerable among us, in this challenging time of need," said Debbie Tatum, Director of Development for the Franciscan Health Foundation in Northwest Indiana.

“Community Partners like Horizon Bank help us keep up with the need in our community, and they continue to rise to the challenge when their help is needed the most,” explained Executive Director Carol Phipps.

“Midland Area Community Foundation is pleased and humbled by Horizon Bank’s donation of $10,000 towards our COVID-19 Response Fund,” said Sharon Mortensen, President & CEO of the Midland Area Community Foundation. “The fund is providing relief right now to nonprofit agencies who are providing services for vulnerable populations most impacted by the pandemic, and individuals whose livelihood has been impacted.”
