Caution for Horizon Customers: How to Avoid Phone Scams

Caution! Phone scams are on the rise. Scammers call posing as workers at legitimate companies to get customer information and steal money. As a reminder, Horizon
Bank will not call to ask for your online banking access code or password or remotely log into your online banking account. We've provided some tips below to protect yourself from phone scams and fraudulent charges.
Tips to Avoid Phone Scams
- Never provide your Secure Access Code or password. Horizon’s team will never call and ask for this information. If you get a call asking for this info, hang up immediately. If you already provided this information, report the fraud to FraudDept@horizonbank.com.
- Never send funds to people you don't know via wire transfer, Zelle, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. Horizon won’t ever ask for funds this way. If someone posing as a Horizon team member asks you to wire them money, report them immediately!
- If you’re unsure, call Horizon yourself. Horizon will never ask you for money or personal information over the phone. However, if someone asks for other information and you’re uncertain if they’re legitimate, tell them you need time to verify their credentials. Then, call your local Horizon branch for confirmation.
- Stay up-to-date on your account. Many phone scammers say there are problems with your account, deposits, or withdrawals to get private information from you. Stay informed about your account so you don’t fall for this trick! By checking your account frequently, you’ll know if there may be an actual issue.
If you’ve provided information to a scammer, please contact the Horizon Bank Fraud Department at FraudDept@horizonbank.com.
