Our community impact and support.

Being involved and giving back is more than just the right thing to do. It’s the best way we know to understand the needs of both our customers and community members. So it’s only natural that we would encourage our Advisors to seek local volunteer opportunities. Inspiring them to get involved in their individual passions and take on leadership positions in the community simply dovetails with our approach to customer service.

Horizon Bank Named One of American Banker's “Best Banks to Work For” in 2021

Michigan City, IN. — This year, American Banker asked executives at 90 banks that earned a spot in the annual Best Banks to Work For ranking how they’re handling challenges associated with hiring and retaining talent. It’s well known that competition for talent has been intense, and worker shortages are expected to persist in years to come as Baby Boomers retire.

Horizon believes one of the ways they are staying abreast of hiring and retainment challenges is because they have a better understanding of their company’s culture and have taken a progressive approach to their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. To that end, they have recently established affinity resource groups that are open to all of their employees, the first of which was focused on LGBTQ+ issues with more groups coming in the near future. The idea behind the voluntary groups is to provide a welcoming forum where employees can share experiences, build relationships and generally cultivate better understanding of each other.

“We firmly believe that by leveraging diverse and unique talents and listening and learning from different perspectives will support our future growth and success as a company,” said Chairman and CEO Craig Dwight.

Horizon has also defined and tracked workforce diversity metrics, to better understand where it is lagging or improving. For instance, the proportion of new hires who self-identified as minorities jumped from 16% in 2018 to 26% in 2020.

"We are proud to receive recognition as one of the Nation's 'Best Banks to Work For'," continued Dwight. "At Horizon, we recognize that our Employees are truly our best assets, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive and collaborative culture where people are valued, empowered to act, achieve their goals and contribute to  the betterment of our local communities."
