Horizon Bank Recognizes John Crandle and Karen Poff For Leadership and Community Service

Michigan City, Indiana – Horizon Bank has honored advisors John Crandle for leadership and Karen Poff who is respected for putting community first.
Crandle was presented with Horizon’s annual Robert C. Dabagia Leadership Award for 2015.
John Crandle, VP, Sr. Commercial Loan Officer, received this award because of his dedication to Horizon, co-workers and customers. A fellow advisor remarked, “Quite simply, John makes us all better by focusing on his clients and making sure their experience is something we can all be proud of as an organization. If not, then he looks for ways to improve by questioning and suggesting ways we might enhance the Horizon experience.”
Crandle remarked “I am honored to be the recipient of this year’s Robert C. Dabagia Leadership Award, named for one of Horizon Bank’s greatest leaders and awarded to so many other great recipients over the years. To me, leadership means making those around us (our clients, our Horizon Bank family, our own family and friends, our community) more comfortable, more confident, more appreciated because we all choose to get up every day and do it better than the day before.”
The Robert C. Dabagia Leadership Award is presented to a Horizon employee who affects positive change for customers, company and community, as exemplified by outstanding leadership, professionalism, collaboration and commitment to customers, and who is an active community volunteer. Mr. Dabagia has provided leadership, guidance and inspiration throughout the years, generously giving of his time and expertise to the Horizon Bank and the community. In honor of his outstanding leadership and service, Horizon's Leadership Award has been named the Robert C. Dabagia Leadership Award.
Karen Poff was given the bank’s Burton B. Ruby Community Service Award for 2015. The Ruby Award honors a Horizon employee who has significantly contributed to the communities they serve through volunteerism, leadership and contributions.
Poff, Assistant Vice President, Business Banker earned the Ruby Award for her dedication to the community. According to the advisor who made the nomination, “Today’s business environment calls on mentors and leaders capable of working in concert with others, the ability to collaborate in creative endeavors, innovate and inspire others and contribute without dominating any undertaking. I think of Karen.”
Poff stated, “I am truly honored to receive the Burton B. Ruby Award. Mr. Ruby leaves a legacy as a prominent businessman and community leader that will always be remembered. Horizon Bank is incredibly supportive of their employee’s community involvement and to win the Burton B. Ruby award leaves me humbled, yet inspired.”
Poff is involved with the following organizations: member and Treasurer of the New Buffalo PTO; Cub Scout leader for the LaSalle District troop; board of the New Buffalo Business Association alternating between President and Vice President where she also chairs the Membership committee; Board of Volunteer Southwest Michigan, Ambassador for the Harbor County Chamber and volunteers every year for the American Red Cross Red Fusion Event.
Burton “Bud” Ruby, for whom the award is named, had long been recognized for his outstanding activism in local and national concerns, including health care, education and commerce. He had received the human relation’s award by the B’nai B’rith and the State of Indiana’s highest civilian honor, The Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
