Larry Kummer, Market President Northeast Indiana

Larry Kummer attended Purdue University as an Agronomy/Agricultural Education Major.  He also served as a state FFA officer.  He began his Agricultural Banking career in June 1979 as the DeKalb County Branch manager for the Federal Land Bank Association of Northeastern Indiana.  In 1987, Larry was promoted to manager of the Allen, DeKalb, and Steuben county branches for Farm Credit of Mid-America.  He held this position until January 1992.

In January 1992, Larry was hired by Auburn State Bank (a division of Fort Wayne National Bank) to develop an agricultural loan program for the bank.  This became a very successful profit center for the Fort Wayne National Bank group, offering the rural community a personal agricultural banking alternative that was finely tuned to local customers.

Peoples Federal Savings Bank of DeKalb County employed Larry in 1999 to develop a premier agricultural lending program for  its bank.  Larry’s success and experience have greatly diversified the bank’s lending products, while expanding their services to additional local clients.  Larry currently serves as Market President of Northeast Indiana and is based in Horizon's Waterloo, Indiana office.

Larry was a recipient of the American Farmer Degree awarded by the Future Farmers of America, as well as the Swackhamer Award given annually at the Indiana Banker’s Agricultural Clinic to the top Ag Lenders.  Larry was also awarded the Indiana Friendly Farmer designation in 2006 and the DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation Farmer of the year in 1999.  In addition, Larry has won many other agricultural and community awards for his farming and dedication to agriculture.

Joe Walter, Market President LaGrange County

Joe Walter was raised on a small beef and grain farm near LaGrange, IN.  Joe and his brothers purchased and ran a hog farm for seven years in the eighties. He has maintained some involvement in a hog facility doing custom finishing for others since 1998.

Joe graduated from Lakeland High School in LaGrange.  During high school, he worked afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays for an agribusiness.  Joe later graduated from Purdue University in December of 1981 with a degree in Agricultural Finance.

Joe has 11 years of prior Ag lending experience with Farm Credit Services.  He began as an Association Representative in Steuben County and finished his career with Farm Credit as an Assistant Vice President of Credit overseeing the Goshen, 
Plymouth, South Bend, and Warsaw offices.  During his term at Farm Credit, Joe also spent some time working in LaGrange, DeKalb, and Allen counties.

After that, Joe worked in a family agribusiness for 15 years in accounting, finance, human resources, and management before joining the Peoples Federal Savings team August 2008.  Joe is currently the Market President of LaGrange County and is based in Horizon Bank's Howe, Indiana office.

Eric Aschleman, AVP Agricultural Lender

Eric Aschleman was raised on his family’s grain farm in DeKalb County.  He has helped out on the farm his whole life, more actively since returning to the area in 2004.  Eric was a 4 year FFA member at DeKalb High School graduating in 1999.  Eric attended Purdue University and graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 2003.

After graduating from Purdue Eric worked as an Assistant Elevator Manager for ADM Grain Company at the State Line, Indiana location.  From there Eric worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a warehouse examiner covering a territory that included the states of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan but also spent time in Missouri, Kansas, New York, and Pennsylvania.  Eric then had the opportunity to get closer to home and the family farm and worked as an Ag Lender with another local organization for 7 years.  Eric Serves on the DeKalb FFA advisory board and also on the DeKalb County Ag Day committee.  


David Gurtner, AVP Agricultural Loan Officer

Dave Gurtner was raised in DeKalb County on a dairy and grain farm.  Dave has helped manage his family’s farming operation for the past 37 years.  He was a 10-year 4-H member and a 4-year FFA member. 

Dave graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Agricultural Education and furthered his education with an M.S. in Education.  Dave taught Vocational Ag at DeKalb High School for 27 years before joining Peoples Federal as an Agricultural Loan Officer in the fall of 2007. 
Dave and is currently an AVP of Ag Lending based in our Waterloo, Indiana office.  

Dave supports many 4-H and FFA activities and has served on the DeKalb County Extension Board for over 20 years.  He has been awarded the Honorary Hoosier FFA Degree, the Indiana Young Farmers Outstanding Advisor Award and the Dekalb County Friend of Extension Award.
