Black Friday Shopping. Keeping Safe During Covid 19

November 9, 2020 11:45 AM

Like many things in 2020, the holiday shopping season will be unlike any in recent memory. The concern over health and safety in retail stores has been an ongoing challenge for retailers during this time. And, the CDC has issued strict guidelines for shoppers, recommending that consumers stay home as much as possible this season and avoid in-store shopping.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your Black Friday shopping, which falls on November 217th:

1) Find the deals you want ahead of time

These websites, among others, offer databases of Black Friday deals, so you can get a preview of what you’ll find online and in stores if you have to venture out: www.bestblackfriday.com, and www.bradsdeals.com/black-friday

2) Do some comparison shopping

There are several price-checking apps available. These apps let you scan a product tag with your phone to see pricing at a variety of stores almost instantly. Make sure you’re not spending more than you actually should, with apps like Amazon, ShopSavvy, or BuyVia, among others.

3) Shop early. Or late.

The truth is, Black Friday deals aren’t always the best and the hottest deals this holiday shopping season will be available online to reduce crowds and eliminate the need to rush into a store. So, shop early and online if you can.

4) Do you research ahead of time

This is especially necessary for big-ticket electronics. You might find a TV that seems like a bargain, but a quick online search for reviews can tell you whether it’s really a quality product or not. Check out Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and other big box store websites — or even Consumer Reports — for insights from others who already own the products.

5) Stay at home!

For Black Friday shopping, the CDC recommends shopping online rather than in person on the day after Thanksgiving or the next Monday.  Most stores run the same deals on their websites as they do in stores. So if you’re not into fighting the crowds and want to play it safe this year —  fix yourself some coffee, and hunker down on the couch to do your shopping. Chances are good that you won’t be missing anything!

Above all, enjoy this holiday season and stay safe!
