Horizon Bank Recognizes Doperalski & Wright

Michigan City, Indiana  Horizon Bank has honored advisors Becki Doperalski for her leadership and Sharon Wright, who is respected for putting community first.


Doperalski was presented with Horizon's John A. Garrettson Leadership Award for 2011. The Garrettson Award is presented to a Horizon employee who effects positive change for customers, company and community, as exemplified by outstanding leadership, professionalism, collaboration and commitment to customers, and who is an active community volunteer.


Doperalski, a Vice President of Mortgage Operations received this award because of her dedication to Horizon, co-workers and customers.   A fellow advisor remarked, "Becki not only supervised our activity, she actively participated in the daily work earning the respect of her supervisor, subordinates and loan originators.  She always managed to keep us focused on the "Big Prize", a satisfied customer!"


Doperalski stated, "I am humbled to be the recipient of this years John Garrettson Leadership Award.  Our Mortgage Operations Team is dedicated, hardworking and put the customers needs first, and I feel privileged to be a part of their team.


Wright was given the bank's Burton B. Ruby Community Service Award for 2011. The Ruby Award honors a Horizon employee who has significantly contributed to the communities they serve through volunteerism, leadership and contributions.

Wright, Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager, earned the Ruby Award for her dedication to the community. According to the advisors who made the nomination, "When Sharon took the first step, little did she know the journey would be filled with so many adventures, so many new people and so many opportunities.   It is from her heart she serves."


Wright is on the Board of Directors for the following organizations:  Community In Schools of LaPorte County; Northwest Indiana Volunteer Center; Michigan City Mainstreet Association; Michigan City Historical Society and Women in Leadership of La Porte County


For the United Way of LaPorte County, she was the Chairperson for United Way Day of Caring; Chairperson for United Way Allocations Committee; United Way Loaned Executive and was the United Way Volunteer of the Year award recipient.  She is an Ambassador for Michigan City Chamber of Commerce and the LaPorte Chamber of Commerce, where she was an Ambassador of the Year recipient.  Wright is a Graduate of Leadership La Porte County and also volunteers for the following organizations: Big Sister Volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Hours for Ours; Junior Achievement; Habitat For Humanity; Kiwanis Organization; Relay for Life; March of Dimes; American Red Cross; Fried's Cat Shelter and the Michiana Humane Society.


Wright stated, "Giving back to our communities that we serve is a responsibility that we all have as business leaders.  I am honored to be associated with Horizon Bank, a company that participates in and recognizes the community service of its employees and humbled to have received the Burton B Ruby Community Service Award." 


Burton "Bud" Ruby, for whom the award is named, has long been recognized for his outstanding activism in local and national concerns, including health care, education and commerce. He has received the human relation's award by the B'nai B'rith and the State of Indiana's highest civilian honor, The Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
