Michigan City, Indiana – Horizon Bank celebrated a ribbon cutting for a new banking facility located in the Michigan City High School on January 30th.   This facility provides banking services to the students, faculty and staff of Michigan City High School as well as increased financial literacy opportunities for the students.

While not the first of its kind, having a banking facility in the school is new to Michigan City and represents a great opportunity for the students.  Not only does this provide added convenience to conduct basic banking transactions, it provides job opportunities and enhancement to financial education in the school.

Carla Kanney, Senior Vice President, Sales and Branch Administration for Horizon Bank stated “Horizon Bank has been in the Michigan City market for over 140 years.  So you can imagine how many of our team members have attended Michigan City High School.  The Bank has twelve core Values we live by and are the foundation of our strategic plans.  One of our Values is ‘We contribute to the betterment of our community’ – this opportunity was in perfect alignment and we are excited to partner with the school.”

The facility, aptly named The Wolves Branch, is staffed by students of Michigan City High School and is open one-half hour prior to the start of the school day and throughout all lunch periods.  A Horizon Bank advisor is on premise during the hours of operation to provide supervision and a faculty member will serve as the liaison to the Bank and students.  Product offerings at The Wolves Branch will focus on the student, online banking services, and primarily checking and savings accounts as well as issuance of custom Wolves debit cards. Students, faculty and staff with Horizon Bank accounts will be able to conduct basic transactions, including new account openings at the branch.

"We are very excited about Horizon's new MC Wolves Branch, which provides banking services, financial literacy, and job opportunities for our high school students," said Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent of the Michigan City Area Schools. "Horizon has stepped forward as a strong partner of public education in Michigan City, and we appreciate their continued support of our schools and our students."
